ファッキュー、メイン!
Today Maine proved that it sucks by repealing the law allowing gays to marry.

Of course, Alaska sucks, too, since same-sex marriage has never been legal here. I guess that means it sucks even more than Maine.

How much longer before gays aren't treated like second-class citizens?

What pisses me off even more is how many people are saying to the LGBT community, "Wait your turn! Our economy is bad right now. Why would we focus on something that only affects a small portion of the population? Don't be so selfish!"

Yeah, damn those uppity gays for for wanting the same rights that straight people have. The nerve!

Give me a fucking break. I'm sure they said the same thing to blacks who were pushing for the right to vote in the 60's, and to women in the early 1900's. "Wait your turn. There are other things to be done."

Well, you know what? There will always be "other things." If it's not the economy, it's health care. If it's not health care, it's the war in Iraq. If it's not the war in Iraq, it's abortion. There will never be a time when we look at each other and say, "Well, we've fixed everything else that needs fixing. Why don't we give those gays their marriage rights now?"

It just doesn't work that way.

怒っているのは、メイン州の民は同性結婚を禁じることにした。もうカリフォルニアに同じことがあったのに!

My state really, REALLY sucks because not only is DOMA state law here (as it is in most states, like Alaska, I'm sure), but they've been trying like hell to define marriage as exclusively between a man and a woman. And they'll probably try again.

Anyway, that whole talk about "we have other things to do" is a cover-up for saying, "Gays don't deserve equal rights." How is permitting same-sex marriage a strain for the economy? A strain on the war effort? I just don't see it. Actually, it could help state economies. If a state legalizes same-sex marriage, then more people will move there and work there. Banning it is very detrimental to state economies because people will move out. So, that argument is invalid.

I read a news story about what happened in Maine, and one person said that gays should "give it a rest" and that, "We can be equal without being the same." So, yeah, I really don't think they're all that concerned with "other issues" more than banning gays from marrying.

So, believe me when I say you're not the only one going "WTF" here. I think that, eventually, it will be a Supreme Court case, and that's really the only way it's going to be legalized nation-wide.

You know, it's hard to believe that we're behind South Africa on this issue.

But yeah, I'm particularly emotional about this.

That's what it took with allowing interracial marriage.

I hate how detractors are all like, "But that goes against the will of the people!" Well, that's what we have the Supreme Court for. Apparently those guys have never heard of "tyranny of the majority."

MANY things have gone against the "will of the people." The desegregation of schools and civil rights are just a couple. But the Supreme Court passed them anyway. Those people are silly. I hate it when people say, "majority rules," when they forget about minority rights.

Anyway, I say we should just go on a socially-liberal rage X'D.

Most of the funding for the anti-gay legislation comes from the Mormon church. I think they're angling that somehow keeping gays from marrying equates to keeping Mormons from enslaving little girls in polygamist compounds. If their church elders can't legally get off on their kink, they don't want anyone else to have what they see as a 'kink'.
There's quite a few pop end-of-world movies that mention nuking Las Vegas as a way of destroying vice in the US. These days I rather think Salt Lake should be the target to achieve that goal.
I used to have a comparatively favorable opinion of Mormons relative to other religions (most of which I hold in low regard; even non-theistic Buddhism has too much fairy-dust mystic crap). No longer.

I just think it's funny that there's always plenty of time (and money) to oppose any sort of gay rights advances, but never enough time to seriously look into it.

Or just how when it comes to be election time again, a candidate's views on topics like gay marriage and whatnot seem to outweigh their plans for the economy or health care or whatever, at least for many people.

People are just too afraid to say what they mean because it sure would make them look like terrible people if they said "I don't want gays to marry because I have unfounded hatred of things I don't understand." Gotta love people that hide behind their religion to justify their prejudices.
